I really like this material from a good source in Siberia, Russia. The best way to tell rubellite from pink tourmaline is the secondary color on the C-axis. Pink tourmaline is usually pink to dark purplish pink with an orange to peach C-axis. The C-axis is the long axis of the crystal and is always at least a slightly different color than the other two directions. Rubellite is pink to red in all three directions, even though the C-axis may be slightly different from the other two directions. In this stone, we have purplish pink to red, a very pretty combination. There are many different tones in the stone depending on the light.
Grading is done per Gemworld International's grading system. The overall quality grade determines the wholesale value of the stone.
