Chondrite Meteorite found in the Sahara Desert, Morocco
Sample BE 1112 just concluded (Lab ID; AML23/0907).
Examination of a thin section shows a chondritic texture, with very diffuse chondrules up to ~0.7 mm in diameter (mostly as radial pyroxene and barred olivine) set in a highly recrystallized matrix.
Olivine presents planar fractures. Pyroxene is practically orthorhombic. FeNi metallic phase occupies ~10% vol.
There is accessory troilite.
The sample is an Ordinary Chondrite, type L (based on diameter of chondrules and amount of free metal),
type 6 (based on degree of recrystallization and development of pyroxene, and on the state of chemical equilibrium of the chondrules).
The shock grade is compatible with S2, presenting granulated metal, and only irregular fractures in the minerals.
The Weathering grade is W2 based on the oxidation of metals and silicates.
sample has been cut from this Meteorite and details will be added when arrives
Meteorite Source
South East of Dakhla; located in the Western Sahara Desert, Morocco. Latitude and longitude coordinates for Dakhla are: 30°24'38.56"N, 9°33'20.59"W.
Meteorites were found in this area between Imlili, Aousserd and Tichla.
We visited Morocco in 2007 and visited areas where meteorites were found, but they were extremely difficult to find. In several hours we only found one small meteorite. Two images enclosed when we went fossicking for meteorites.

Quick shipping with FedEx to the US. It was well packaged. The one I received did have a small crack and chip in the lip, but stuff like that is expected with a natural material like this. I'm happy with my purchase.
