TANZANITE SPECIMEN
MERELANI HILLS TANZANIA
BEAUTIFUL COLLECTOR SPECIMEN
the world's rarest gems, found in one place – a short area at the foothills of Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania called Merelani.
The precious stone's appeal lies in its variety of hues, including green, red, purple and blue
What kind of rock is tanzanite found in?
Tanzanite is the blue and violet variety of the mineral zoisite (a calcium aluminium hydroxyl sorosilicate), caused by small amounts of vanadium. Tanzanite belongs to the epidote mineral group.
Tanzanite Crystal system Orthorhombic Space group Pnma (no. 62) Identification Colour Royal blue, indigo, violet/purple
Pink Tanzanite (or Pink Zoisite, to give it its scientific name) is the rarest of all Tanzanite. It is very seldom mined or seen and fine pieces are hard to get. The cause of colour in Pink Tanzanite is thought to be trace elements of Manganese as opposed to Vanadium which colours the blue variety of Zoisite.
