WURTZITE SPECIMEN
Named in 1861 by Charles Friedel in honor of French chemist Charles Adolphe Wurtz after it was discovered in the San José Mine, Oruro City, Cercado Province, Oruro Department, Bolivia. Wurtz was one of the most influential chemists in the world

MUCH MORE IMPRESSIVE THAN THE PHOTOS REVEAL
ORIGIN : Agios Philippos Mine, Kirki, Evros, East Macedonia and Thrace, Greece
Agios Philippos mine is considered among the best European localities for wurtzite specimens. It is the biggest of a group of mines known generally as "Kirki mines". Agios Philippos can be declared a defunct locality, as the mine is closed and the open pit is partly filled with acidic waters.
Here is a delightful example of well formed dark orange to brown Wurtzite crystals on both sides of the specimen on matrix. Specimen is not only UV reactive showing orange and yellow green fluorescence in LW UV light but also green phosphorescence - meaning that the specimen continues to glow for a short time after the ultraviolet light has been turned off. This is the last such specimen I have to offer from a batch I acquired 7 years ago from a one time limited find in 2013, the find was published at N.4-2014 issue of Rivista Mineralogica Italiana magazine. Wurtzite is usually found as black to dark reddish-brown massive resinous to sub-metallic material, also botryoidal banded crusts, and more rarely as hemimorphic pyramidal, or tabular, crystals like this specimen. Wurtzite is an uncommon Zn-Fe sulfosalt. The locality this specimen comes from is hardly known to the mineral world and hardly any of this material from this locality is available on the market which makes it a rarer specimen. Specimen requires magnification in order to enjoy the interesting micro crystal structures. A wonderful example of Wurtzite from this old lead-zinc mine in northern Greece. Will be a delightful addition to any UV, mineral or rock collection. Do not miss this opportunity.
Please note : Fluorescence is a phenomenon that causes a mineral to "glow" within the visible spectrum when exposed to ultraviolet light. Ultraviolet light is a form of electromagnetic radiation invisible to the human eye. The ultraviolet reaction is only visible with a special fluorescent torch / lamp with a filter that blocks white light but allows ultraviolet light to pass through. In order to achieve satisfactory results, do not use inexpensive 'UV' lights. The UV longwave torch I use to take the photos with is a Convoy S2+ Nichia UV 365nm LED Flashlight with filter lens. Keep in mind that not only wattage, filtration but also distance from the UV torch to specimen are significant factors for best results. Use protective UV-absorbing goggles, for extended viewing.
Phosphorescence is a type of photoluminescence related to fluorescence. When exposed to light (radiation) of a shorter wavelength, a phosphorescent substance will glow, absorbing the light and reemitting it at a longer wavelength.

Oh my, as I have a macro lenses camera on my phone i am able to see how intricate and incredibly detailed this piece is. Very easy to say that it will be hard to find a piece as rare as this

Every piece of pyrite purchased from this incredible seller is different and unique in so many ways. I love my pyrite and will continue to use orkytonminerals as my source for all specimens purchases.

Present for the holidays, yet too open but have been told that it's incredible.
Why are users outbidding themselves?
When a bid is placed, this is the maximum amount a user is willing to bid for the product. Our system will then automatically bid on that users behalf, incrementally increasing the bid to maintain their position as the highest bidder, up to the specified maximum.
When there is an icon indicating 'Auto Bid,' it means our system is actively placing bids for the user based on their maximum bid. This may appear as if users are outbidding themselves, but it's simply a result of the system updating the bid to reflect the users maximum limit.
