A delightful mixed example from this locality and a Greek classic now found only in collections consisting of well formed UV reactive Manganoan Calcite crystals which glow a delightful sweet pink color under long wave ultraviolet light (see pictures) along with shiny golden Pyrite, black Sphalerite and micro terminated Quartz crystals. Specimen is wonderful under magnification as there are features to explore. Although crystals are obvious to the naked eye, specimen requires magnification in order to enjoy the interesting structures and formations. The locality is hardly known to the mineral world and hardly any of this material from this locality is available on the market which makes it a rare specimen (google search). Specimens from this locality come from old miners and were found decades ago. Specimen comes from the historically mined but now closed and refilled upper levels of the Madem-Lakkos deposit in Northern Greece. Will be a great and interesting addition to any rock and mineral collection. This is the opportunity to add this old timer to your rock or mineral collection.

Please note : Fluorescence is a phenomenon that causes a mineral to "glow" within the visible spectrum when exposed to ultraviolet light. Ultraviolet light is a form of electromagnetic radiation invisible to the human eye. The ultraviolet reaction is only visible with a special fluorescent torch / lamp with a filter that blocks white light but allows ultraviolet light to pass through. In order to achieve satisfactory results, do not use inexpensive 'UV' lights. The UV longwave torch I use to take the photos with is a Convoy S2+ Nichia UV 365nm LED Flashlight with filter lens. Keep in mind that not only wattage, filtration but also distance from the UV torch to specimen are significant factors for best results. Use protective UV-absorbing goggles, for extended viewing.
