Pearl Shape
A perfectly round pearl is very rare. The rounder the pearl, the more valuable it is. Baroque pearls are not symmetrical in shape, and can be lustrous and appealing, but will typically cost less than round pearls.
The most valuable of baroque pearls are the South Sea and Tahitian pearls. These pearls are produced by the Pinctada margaritifera, and the Pinctada maxima (black-lipped oysters and white-lipped oysters). Although these are a variety of cultured saltwater pearls, the amount of time that the pearls are cultured dramatically increases the depth of the nacre, and the likelihood of producing a baroque pearl. Most Tahitian pearl farm harvests, for example, produce more than 40 percent baroque and semi-baroque pearls
Pearl Color
Pearls come in a variety of colors, from white to black and every shade in between. It is important to distinguish between color and overtone. For example, some naturally occurring colors are white, champagne, aqua, green, golden, and black. Within each color category, there are a number of common overtones, or subtle variations in the surface iridescence. Choosing your preferred overtone is a matter of taste, although rosé overtones tend to look best on fair skin, while cream and gold-toned pearls are most flattering to those with darker complexions.
TAHITIAN PEARLS: Tahatian pearls are rarerthan other types of pearls due to the small number of oysters that will [produce a fine pearl. Most Tahitian Cultured pearls are not treated the notable exception are “Chocolate” colored pearls
The method is also used for Tahitian cultured pearls, where light colored pearls of a low color range are dyed black (originally, white South Sea cultured pearls from other countries may have been used for the same purpose). Tahitian pearls are black pearls that are grown in the waters of French Polynesia. Although they are commonly referred to as black pearls, Tahitian pearls are found in a large variety of natural colors such as silvery white, light and dark grays, greens, blues, yellows, and purples. They range in size from about 7mm to over 18mm. Our Tahitian pearls are always natural in color, never dyed.
PEARL SURFACE
A flawless pearl is very rare and costly. Most have small imperfections, and nicks from sand which enters the shell. [we call them beauty spots]These marks help identify imitation black pearls which usually have no flaws.
NARCE THICKNESS
The average Tahatian pearl has app1 mm of narce thickness as they are kept in the ocean longer than other types of pearls.
PEARL SIZE
The larger the pearl is the rarer and more dearer it will cost.14 mm and over are very rare.
CLEANING
Never clean your pearl in a ultrasonic or use detergents with ammonia
