18.4ct unheated intense cornflower blue sapphire from Sri Lanka.
The sapphire is certified Intense Blue.
The tone is medium deep, hence we can see the lighter tint at the heart of the stone.
This is not just a cornflower hue that is superbly intense but the most intense blue we have come across in a blue sapphire.
Strictly speaking, the sapphire is more intense than vivid, since the stone is silky.
Cornflower blue or not, vivid or not (it is), the strength of its blue returns the color again and again to your eyes, alive, quite surreal.
Setting this sapphire into gold will be very interesting, seeing how the core of the stone will calibrate the blue.
We see this sapphire as a stone at the bluest end of the corundum, that would rival the pigeon blood ruby - in both cases the saturation must be intense.
All photos are taken in natural light, no additional lamp is used.
The stone measures 15.85 x 13.18 x 10.28 mm.
