A sensational blue Larimar cabochon - stunning markings and deep blue color - natural and untreated! This color consistency across the whole stone is varied and beautiful.

Larimar or blue pectolite is a rare gemstone. It has been found only in the province of Barahona in the Dominican Republic. The beautiful blue color is often considered to embody the beautiful blue colors of the sea and sky found in the Caribbean. Totally natural and untreated.
In an age of ecological awareness, a gem whose beauty is entirely from nature can have a significant advantage over a treated stone.
In 1974 work commenced to mine the stone, long known to local inhabitants. Island legends said that the stones could be collected easily on the beach, but one day there were no blue Larimar stones left! Hence locals explored upstream and found a rock formation, which appeared to be the source of the blue stone.
Most small blocks of Larimar are in situ; meaning they exist in the very place where they formed. However through soil erosion some pieces broke off and were moved by rainfall down the slopes of the hillsides to rivers. The river deposited them in the Caribbean Sea, some pieces washed up on the seashore by waves.
The stone is formed when hot gases push crystallized minerals up though volcanic ‘tubes’. In order to mine and excavate the stone miners must identify these tubes and dig deeper and deeper into old volcanoes..
Larimar Healing Properties: It is considered a healing stone and said to be a throat chakra stone; it increases communication skills and supports the body’s natural healing process and cures throat disorders. Larimar is also called the Atlantis Stone, because a Spiritual master claimed that some islands in the Caribbean including the Dominican Republic were part of the lost continent of Atlantis. Larimar is said to promote tranquillity and serenity and helps soothe frazzled nerves and reduce stress. Larimar is also said to be a useful stone for attracting a soul mate. In addition Larimar is said to alleviate feelings of guilt and fear and to aid communication in relationships. It can reduce the tendency to become over-critical. Larimar is believed to reduce depression and apathy and to help relieve bipolar disorders.

Botswana upholds extremely high mining standards; No diamonds are conflict diamonds or blood diamonds. We cut these diamond in our own family run factory in Surat, India and there is no child labor. The staff are paid well and the conditions are good and the staff are well trained and looked after and are content and happy.
