This is a interesting piece of natural ironstone rough slice from the Yowah opal field Queensland Australia. This field is known for its famous opal nuts which contain precious opal.This material has the opal embedded in the iron/sandstone matrix so you can see the interesting patterns this white/caramel opal makes. The opal potch can be on the back of the nut so if you rub the sandstone away you may get a surprise with a nice pattern. Only one nut in a thousand has a nice stone so we slice them all. This takes a great polish and will be fun to cut.
