Treatments: Most gemologists confer that it is safer and more honest to presume that a gem these days has been treated in some way, rather to say that it has not. This could mean anything from oil to radiation - and given that even some of these practices occur even in the rough at the mine, it really is probably better to assume some kind of enhancement could have taken place. Having said that, I have some stock that, because of its species, is never enhanced or treated - and so typically with those gems it would be a fairly safe to say otherwise. However, for the purpose of propriety I have to say 'treated' unless proven.

Clarity Chart - VVS Excellent quality gems that may have microscopic inclusions which are difficult to to see under a loupe with 10x magnification. VS/EyeClean Si These gems have inclusions which are fairly easy to see by the naked eye. However, the overall beauty of the gem is still good as the inclusions are not visible from a distance, say an arms length. II Translucent These gems allow light to pass through with dispersion. This clarity trait may not necessarily indicate an inferior quality gem. Gems such as Chalcedony are naturally translucent. Opaque These gems do not allow light to pass through them. This clarity trait may not necessarily indicate an inferior quality gem. Gems such as Turquoise are naturally opaque. Very good quality gems with inclusions that are visible only under a jewelers loupe of 10x magnification. The inclusions are not clearly obvious to the naked eye. Or the inclusions are visible to the naked eye after very careful observation or in some cases from a certain angle only. In most cases the inclusions in gems of this grade can be hidden after setting the gem into jewelry.
