AUSTRALIAN KESHI PEARLS
Keshi Pearls are as close as we get to natural pearl from a farm environment. These very individual pearls are usually irregular in shape and are priced by weight as opposed to size.
The international term keshi means ‘poppy seed’ in Japanese, and is a reference to the small size of these pearls, which are seldom more than a few millimetres in diameter.
Keshi pearls are popular because they are made of solid nacre and usually have a bright lustre. Their irregular shape can be a stimulus and challenge to jewellery designers and some of the most innovative jewellery is made using them.
At Colonial South Sea Pearl we pride ourselves in offering only high quality jewellery made in Australia at an affordable price. All our products are individually selected for their quality, workmanship and attention to detail.
Condition: 100% Brand New;
SIX PEARL GRADING FACTORS
There are six pearl grading factors we use to grade South Sea pearls:
Pearl Shape: Round, Semi-Round, Semi-Baroque, Ringed or Circle, Baroque.
Pearl Size: 8MM to 18MM.
Pearl Surface Quality: Clean (A), Light Blemished (B), Moderately Blemished (C), Heavily Blemished (D).
Pearl Luster: Very high (AAA), High (AA), Medium (A), Soft (B).
Pearl Nacre Thickness: Thick, Thin.
Pearl Color: Body color plus overtone.
AUSTRALIAN SOUTH SEA PEARLS
The Australian South Sea pearl comes from the Pinctada maxima oyster and is the largest and rarest of all pearl oysters, and produces the finest and most beautiful pearl nacre of any mollusc.
Divers collect the wild oysters by hand in the pristine waters off north-west Australia. They are then taken to pearl farms, where they are nurtured in the hope that they will produce a gem quality pearl. Not every oyster will produce a pearl, and apart from rare exceptions, most will produce only one pearl at a time.
CARING FOR YOUR PEARL
Here are a few simple tips for caring for your precious pearl
Some chemicals may harm pearls. Wait until after applying makeup, perfume and hair products before putting on pearl jewellery. Wipe pearl jewellery with a soft cloth before putting it away. Store pearl jewellery wrapped in a soft cloth to protect it from rubbing against harder gems or abrasive objects. Occasionally clean your pearls gently with a cloth dipped in alcohol diluted with warm water or in mild soapy water. Rinse the cloth in fresh water and wipe pearls clean. Dry with a soft cloth.
