OBSIDIAN HEARTS
This is a natural stone cut to give a beautiful display of colours under strong light.
Mined and cut in Mexico
Weight 26.97 cts app
Size 25 x 21 x 8 mm app
This beautiful specimen is from Mexico where it has been specially cut to expose wonderful heart pattern. It is called rainbow obsidium due to the iridesence colours
Note you need direct sunlight to see pattern as we have used internal fluorescent lights
Obsidian is mineral-like, but not a true mineral because as a glass it is not crystalline; in addition, its composition is too complex to comprise a single mineral. It is sometimes classified as a mineraloid.
Obsidian was valued in Stone Age cultures because, like flint, it could be fractured to produce sharp blades or arrowheads.Though not approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for use on humans, obsidian is used by some surgeons for scalpel blades, as well-crafted obsidian blades have a cutting edge many times sharper than high-quality steel surgical scalpels, the cutting edge of the blade being only about 3 nanometers thick
