Madan, in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, just north of the frontier with Greece, is an ancient ore-miners’ settlement. The history of mining in the Madan region extends back at least as far as the Thracians in the fifth century B.C. where the extraction of lead ore began.

A nice example featuring a shiny metallic golden Pyrite cluster from the Madan ore field in Bulgaria. Specimen is very interesting under magnification as there are features to explore, view the minor gray Galena and black Sphalerite and can you spot the micro terminated quartz crystals. Although crystals are visible to the naked eye, specimen requires magnification in order to enjoy the crystal structures and colors. Will be a wonderful addition to any mineral or rock collection.
