Hand Carved Shell Cameos from pieces sold for their gold mounts.
The combination of high gold prices and the decline in brooch wearing, many cameos found themselves without their mounts as the owners ceased the opportunity to sell the gold. The bonus is that many cameos are available on the second-hand market for much les than they would have cost a few years ago.
These cameos range from approximately 12mm x 10mm to 35mm x 27mm. Their is a range in carving quality and general condition with a few chips and cracks here and there.
Measurements in the boxes are for the largest, carat weight for the largest.
