Madan, in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, just north of the frontier with Greece, is an ancient ore-miners’ settlement. The history of mining in the Madan region extends back at least as far as the Thracians in the fifth century B.C. where the extraction of lead ore began.

A wonderful and sparkling example from the Madan ore field in Bulgaria consisting of the highly sought after micro black Sphalerite crystals some of which are well formed along with minor Calcite. Specimen is very interesting under magnification as there are features to explore, spot and view the well formed tetrahedral Sphalerite crystals close up. Although crystals are obvious to the naked eye, specimen requires magnification in order to enjoy the range of interesting structures and formations. Will be a delightful addition to any mineral or rock collection. Do not miss this opportunity.
