AAA 4.06ct unheated Cornflower blue to Purple color Change Sapphire
In the gem industry, color in gemstones is referred to in three components: hue, saturation, and tone. Hue is the “color” of the gemstone. Saturation refers to the strength/depth of the color of the gemstone or ‘colorfulness’ and tone is the light to dark of the color. This gem has 10 out of 10 for all of these 3. This really is the most incredible Sapphire from Ratnapura Sri Lanka. The color is the best Cornflower blue changing to the best Tanzanite Purple blue. I could not actually believe the photos when I took them and I thought the light was playing tricks with me – but indeed it was not! It is extremely rare to find a gemstone with this quality of color change and such intense saturation. It is amazing! The cutting dimensions are superb at 10.30 by 7.73 by 5.55. The gem is unheated and it is certified by the IGITL lab and the specific tester who tested it is a Fellow of the Gemmological Association of Great Britain. If you require further testing from another lab this can be arranged at additional cost. The grade of the gem is VS1, we have studied this extensively and this grading is because there are two inclusions which appear to be fine tension cracks – one on the table and one on the pavilion facets – as is normal they look like discolorations from one angle and tension cracks from the other. There are also minor inclusions of tiny dark spots what I assume to be green spinel which are classic Sri Lankan Sapphire inclusions and some minor feathers/fingerprints, abrasions. These can be seen in the image by a trained eye and the only photoshopping has been for dust spots on the gem – and we didn’t get rid of them all by any means, through worry about distorting the image. Please consider the level of magnification of this image - it is way more than a 10 x magnifier. We have photographed with a high end Nikon camera with a macro lens and a light tent and powerful specialist lighting. A courier will need to be arranged for this item and will be chargeable - we will get a quote once the sale is confirmed.
