ORIGIN : MADAN, BULGARIA
Madan, in the Rhodope Mountains of Bulgaria, just north of the frontier with Greece, is an ancient ore-miners’ settlement. The history of mining in the Madan region extends back at least as far as the Thracians in the fifth century B.C. where the extraction of lead ore began.
A wonderful example of a mixed mineral specimen from the Madan ore field in Bulgaria consisting of well formed golden Pyrite cubes that have a shiny luster along with terminated micro Quartz crystals and minor black Sphalerte. Specimen is very interesting under magnification as there are numerous features to explore, enjoy viewing the Quartz crystal close up, the green color is due to Chlorite inclusions. Although crystals are obvious to the naked eye, specimen requires magnification in order to fully enjoy the range of interesting structures. Will be a delightful addition to any mineral or rock collection. Do not miss this opportunity.
