Amethyst Geode 1.04 tonnes At Our Head Quarters

moving our amethyst geode

Our headquarters now has this beautiful massive 1.04 tonne Amethyst geode proudly on display on the Gold Coast, Australia. This massive Geode has many different moving stories.

How We Found It

First it was mined in the southern region of Brazil and when uncovered it took months to dig out. It was then transported to an Amethyst factory in Sao Paulo Brazil.

In 2016 Paul from Seda Gems visited this factory in Brazil but could not buy anything as the Chinese buyers had purchased the entire stocks of the factory. He took a picture of his girlfriend standing in front of it and the owner took them out for dinner that night. When Paul came back in Australia he sent the image to the guy thanking him for the dinner and included the image of the Amethyst geode.

His reply was that the Chinese buyer had not paid for one 20-foot container of Amethyst geodes and if he buys the lot, he can ship instantly with the massive Amethyst geode. So we sent funds instantly to him. We had just opened a local crystal shop and had over 300 large amethyst geodes at really good prices that sold very fast.

The Geode Started In Our Crystal Shop

The amethyst geode was always called ‘Her’ and is 2.3 meters tall. We could not stand it up in our shop as it would not fit through the door. We had to store it in a warehouse lying on its back in the wooden shipping box that it came in from Brazil.

We had an arrow pointing to it so people would go and view it, and instantly there was a good reaction from visitors saying how the amethyst energized them and it was so powerful. Some people believed it gave them a positive feeling that people started to write prayers or wishes and leave on side on the amethyst.

It wasn’t long till thousands of prayer notes and wishes were left that we had to clean out and store these message. We have stored the wishes and some are so beautiful to read and openness of the persons wishes from wanting nice shoes and dresses to wanting a boyfriend or girlfriend to wishing a parent would recover from sickness and so many touching notes.

People just really enjoyed the power and presence of this amethyst while she was lying on her back. After a few years we changed from a crystal shop to a Himalayan salt factory and had to move her out of the warehouse. This is when we decided to move it into our head quarters.

Moving To gem Rock Auctions Headquarters

The first stage was easy we used truck jacks to lift up the box containing her and rolled her out of the warehouse.

Well we pushed her towards the door and she went fast and just missed the door frame by an inch, if it had touched it, the wall would have been ripped out of the building. We hired a crane and had 100 meters to go to our head quarters next door. We moved her easily in the wooden crate. It just took a while to find the right balancing position.

When we arrived at the head quarters it was difficult to find the centre of balance on the swing as the base was heavy and the tip was thinner and weighed less. We had to lift the amethyst geode on it’s side and the crane driver was not happy as he didn’t want to take responsibility if the geode cracked.

It was very stressful moving ‘Her’ at this point on her side trying to balance through our door and we were lucky that the door was wider than the average door size. We only could reach into the door so the crane had to go through a window about 3 meter up and his crane extension would just fit. It was so delicate that he didn’t smash all the windows and he moved ‘Her’ a few meters more but could not reach in the full way.

After all this we were still few meters short to move ‘Her’. So we had all 6 guys altogether to push and swing and try move her and it took a long time. Just over hour to more her to her final resting place. Now she is in our entrance and stands proudly upright in our showroom

Interesting Minerals And Formations In The Rest Of The Shipment

Along with the shipment of the huge Geode came a container load of other specimens. We found one that is just so different from all the others so we put it in our museum in he corner for several years. It weighs 23.1 kilograms.

When we rearranged our showroom we noticed that up close there are so many unique formations on this Amethyst geode. This specimen had black colored needles with Herkimer diamonds (Quartz) on the end of each spike. The specimen also has some Cacoxenite inclusions, so much must have happened in this geode formation over millions years to have so many different minerals.

Amethyst is a beautiful purple colour due to iron and natural radiation of the quartz so the color purple can vary due to this chemical balance. Today it is rare to find that deep purple colour. Most of the Amethyst with a deep purple color comes from Uruguay.

These Geodes are formed in Basaltic rock which have a spherical shaped. The miners drill into the host rock in search of a cavity that might contain crystallized Amethyst. Some geodes display an outer rim of Chalcedony with agate inside. Also amethyst, quartz and even calcite and gypsum are common occurrences.

The strange thing about this geode is the formation of the tiny needles and the small Herkimer diamonds that have formed on the end.
