Amethyst geode in Mygem shop with prayers and wishes posted
Mygem Pty Ltd was founded in late 1980 and Mick would wholesale opal all over Australia. He concentrated in Coober Pedy opals from South Australia and made a popular range of opal Jewelry. He is a character figure selling to shops and wholesalers in by gone boom days for Coober Pedy. He is still in the opal industry today.
Mygems did a partnership deal with Gem Traders and opened a retail shop in Gold Coast Australia and had 400 square meters display of minerals gemstones from all over the world.
40 foot containers would come from the Tucson Gem Show each year as this was good for buying from gem dealers all over the world.
We would source Minerals from brazil. Morocco, Spain, china, Columbia, Russia, Pakistan, India and so many exotic places and we would visit gem shows in Asia in Thailand, Hong Kong, Manila
So eventually we had over 50,000 items in our Mygems crystal shop with 6 staff.
Mick sold out and shop was difficult to operate and most items were inexpensive and selling cost was high.
We calculated selling cost was getting too high and decided to close shop and offer all items online in 2008.
To operate a large crystal shop is just too expensive and took too long to sell inexpensive items with staff wages and rent and thefts.
So it makes online selling far more attractive way to offer our items from all over the world.
Many of our buyers enjoyed the metaphysical gemstone properties and the holistic aspects of gems and minerals.
Other buyer really enjoyed mineral specimens from all over the world with ancient fossils from ammonite, Tribolites, Sea marine fossils, and of course Amethyst geodes.
Mygems concentrated on more natural gemstones cabochon shaped than faceted gems and still use same jewelry manufacture for last 15 years.
We do find it more difficult now to obtain these natural untreated gems and minerals as natural items are more expensive to mine and so many gems are now so heavily treated that we prefer to stick to mother’s natures gem untreated.
