What is Blue Lace Agate?
Blue Lace Agate is a banded Agate variety of Chalcedony; a type of spiritual healing stone that is said to bring the wearer harmony. This stone’s design commonly features sky-blue swirls, reminding us of the clouds and sky.
The first Blue Lace Agate was discovered by George Swanson on a farm known as Ysterputs Farm located in South West Africa in 1962. He called this gem the “Gem of Ecology”, a name he gave it because of the unique swirls of white and blue. Swanson felt as though this reminded him of the clouds above the Earth.
Founded by George, Swanson Enterprises has been slowly mining Blue Lace Agate since it was first found. More recently, George’s son Lionel has headed operations to remove the stone from the earth. Until 1977, the stone was exclusively mined by hand, however, mining mechanisms i.e. machines have been used since then.
